6 Stannp.com features you should be using (but possibly aren't)

Most people stick to the basics: upload data, choose a template, send. That's fine, and plenty of people never move beyond it. But the Stannp.com platform has automation, targeting tools, and testing features that often go untouched. They're worth exploring if you want to improve results without adding manual work.

Different subscription plans include different features, so check yours to see what's included.

1. Postcode radius search (UK only)

If you've got a physical location and need local customers through the door, try our Postcode radius search. Enter a UK postcode, choose a radius and the platform creates a recipient group of everyone within that area. You can target up to 50,000 addresses in one search.

Filters you can use

  • Residential only, business only, or both
  • Exclude specific streets with a search containing less than 10,000 recipients
  • Limit to an exact number of recipients (the system works outwards from your pin until it hits your chosen number)

Where to find it

When logged in to the platform, find it when creating a campaign under "Address Tools" or in your Recipient Groups page. This feature is available for UK accounts.

2. API and automation triggers

If you're manually uploading CSVs every time you want to send mail, the API can help. It lets you trigger direct mail automatically based on events in your CRM, ecommerce platform, or any other system. Once it's set up, mail sends itself without you touching anything.

Common automation triggers

  • Welcome postcard when someone creates an account
  • Win-back mailer 60 days after last purchase
  • Thank you card after a big order
  • Renewal reminder 30 days before expiration
  • Abandoned cart postcard with discount code

How to set it up

If you have a developer, they can integrate directly with the API using your API key (found in the platform settings). See our API guide for full documentation.

If you don't have a developer, use Zapier or Make.com to connect Stannp.com with thouands of other apps. No coding required - just choose your trigger app (like Shopify or HubSpot) and select "Send a postcard" or "Send a letter" as the action.

3. Variable data and personalisation

Every piece of mail you send can be completely unique, such as product recommendations, custom images, personalised offers, location-specific content.

When you upload your data, any column becomes a variable you can use in your design. Purchase history, preferences, account details, custom messages - all of it can be pulled onto each individual mail piece.

How to use variables

Upload your CSV with column headers like "FirstName", "FavouriteProduct", "LastPurchaseDate", "DiscountAmount". In your design, place those variables wherever you want them to appear. We handle the mail merge automatically.

You can use variables in

  • Text (obviously!)
  • Images (swap out product photos based on your recipients' preferences)
  • QR codes (unique URLs for each recipient)
  • Offer amounts (VIP customers get 20% off, everyone else gets 10%)

4. A/B testing across formats and data groups

Using Automations, the platform lets you A/B test different creative, formats, offers, and audience segments to see what actually performs before you commit your full budget.

What you can test

How to set it up

Create two versions of your campaign with different creative or targeting. Send smaller batches to test groups, using unique tracking codes or QR codes for each version. Measure which one performs better, then scale the winner.

Make sure you only test one variable at a time. If you change both the headline AND the offer AND the format, you won't know which change actually drove the results.

5. Address verification

Undeliverable mail still gets charged, and you get zero return on that spend. When you upload data to our platform, we automatically check addresses against Royal Mail's database (UK) or USPS database (US) for free. Addresses get verified, reformatted to postal guidelines, and flagged if they're undeliverable.

What gets checked

  • Is the address real and deliverable?
  • Is the postcode/ZIP code correct?
  • Are there formatting issues that would cause delivery problems?

Why this matters

Properly formatted addresses can reduce your postage costs because they're easier for postal services to process.

Verification happens automatically when you upload. Just check the results and remove or fix flagged addresses before sending.

6. Campaign tracking and insights

Stannp.com provides tracking from creation to mailbox so you know exactly what's happening with your mail.

What you can track

  • When your mail was created
  • When it entered production
  • When it was dispatched
  • Delivery status
  • Response rates (when you use tracking codes or QR codes)

How to measure results

Add unique elements to each campaign:

  • Promo codes (e.g. "EASTER10", "SUMMER25")
  • Custom URLs (e.g. yoursite.com/offer-postcard or yoursite.com/offer-letter)
  • QR codes with tracking parameters

What to review

  • How many people used each code
  • Which campaigns drove the most revenue
  • Cost per acquisition for each audience segment
  • Response rate differences between formats

Start using these features

Most people send mail and hope it works. Better results come from actually measuring what happens by testing different approaches, automating triggers, and tracking responses. Start with one feature and build from there.
